I joined the Systems Design team in November 2024, where my initial focus was on the gamepad experience. From there, my work shifted towards AI behaviours, gun feel, and eventually 3C's.
For my day-to-day, I would work on providing detailed design documents containing:
- An audit of the current implementation (if necessary)
- Research on existing implementations in similar titles
- Whys/Goals of the feature
- Player stories
- Technical diagrams
- BI and analytics requirements
After sharing the document with any stakeholders - usually defined by me in a RACI matrix, I would then begin to prototype the design in-engine (UE5) through various stages (V1,V2,V3 etc) ensuring each version was validated as required. This varied between features but often could include a peer review within Systems or other streams, as well as studio wide or localized playtests.
Overall I developed a greater understanding of development at a scale of 200 people in AAA. At DPS, I have also gained more thorough fundamental experience with various GD lenses, and a deeper understanding of agile workflows.
